In fall 2006, NPEF issued a request for letters of interest relative to developing additional Ready for Life community collaboratives across Nevada. NPEF was pleased to receive a response from the Churchill Community Coalition in Fallon, which had already brought together the school district, juvenile justice services, workforce development, and other community partners. In January 2007, NPEF awarded a planning grant of $19,820 to Churchill Community Coalition to seed Ready for Life in Churchill County. During 2007, they conducted focus groups with youth and compiled data from collaborating partners, including Churchill County School District, Job Opportunities in Nevada, the Churchill County Sheriff’s Department, and Western Nevada College. The resulting data is being used to identify barriers and prepare recommendations for reducing the high school dropout rate in Churchill County.
